Plimmerton brigade wins "Mana Cup"

The Plimmerton Volunteer Fire Brigade became the first winners of the "Mana Cup" competition today, beating off the Titahi Bay, Tawa and Porirua brigades for the honour.

The competition was developed by the Porirua brigade to bring the district's volunteer firefighters together, and test their skills in a range of firefighting exercises. These included a car crash simulation, rural firefighting, ladder work, breathing apparatus, and a procedures knowledge exam.

Team Leader Mike Smith, Plimmerton's chief, says the competition was exhausting, but an excellent chance to focus on practical skills. "It was really good for us volunteers to get together like this… but we were really pleased to win!" he says.
